Young moms are often worried about all the steps they need to follow during their pregnancy. One of the major ones is thinking through a labour plan and considering all the choices a mother has when it comes to the most important moment of delivering their baby. Mothers who are expecting their first child are often worried about things not going according to the plan and this adds to the overall stress. Of course, it is important to have an overall birth plan when it comes to labour, but it should not be ruthlessly followed and set in stone. One of the options that can be included in the labour plan is to have a drug free birth. It is great way to diminish any potential harm that may be caused to the baby from the drugs, however, it is very hard for a woman to stick to this labour plan as many underestimate the pain that the woman can go through during labour and, thus, often this labour plan goes out the window. Regardless of all the planning it ends up being adapted to the needs of the mother at the time. It becomes much easier when woman has second or third pregnancy is well aware of what to expect and when not to over-plan.
Some women include in the birth plan such steps as rubbing the body and back with oils and soothing fragrant crèmes to ease the pain. Proper breathing and visualisation exercises can be part of the labour plan where the whole intention is to take the woman’s mind away from the pain of labour. Some women allow the option to use drugs such as an epidural or pethidine in their labour plan. Overall there are several main aspects that you may want to consider as part of the labour plan: mobility when it comes to labour, pushing, shaving, consideration if the partner will cut the cord, eating and drinking during labour itself, what to do during rupture of membranes, urination, different positions during labour, various techniques that you may use to relax during labour, how you are planning to breast feed after giving birth to a baby.
If you would like the father to be present, then you may like to choose a private room where you can bath and feed the baby with the presence of a partner. When it comes to giving birth at home, then labour plan should be specifically adjusted for it. It is a different risk category to give birth at home and, thus, more thorough planning is required.
