When you are preparing for a baby, there are several things that you must do or at least closely follow. You can call it a nine-month to do list.
During the first months, when you have morning sickness do try to avoid distinctive smells and stock your fridge and cupboards with quick healthy snacks that can be very helpful when you feel nauseated. Do try to drink lots of water and try ginger flavoured drinks which seem to help prevent morning sickness in some people.
During all nine months, exercise moderately and go for plenty of fresh air walks. This will keep you fit and help you when you get to the delivery.
Try to go to bed earlier than usual to get the proper hours of sleep (at least eight hours). Since you will experience lots of swelling, it is important to let body rest and increase blood circulation which will further decrease swelling. Do practice exercises that will improve your breathing, take away the stress (such as yoga) and make you feel better overall.
Take care of your health, especially if you have problems with blood pressure or diabetes or any other type of diseases. Go and see a doctor during your first months of pregnancy.
Do not eat the following foods that can give you diseases such as listeria (that is carried in not very well cooked proteins such as meat or fish as well as cheeses that are not entirely processed). Be conscious with fish and seafood. They can generally carry high levels of mercury which is harmful for your growing baby and you.
Do not eat unpasteurised milk in any form. It is dangerous and may lead to a very nasty illness. Do avoid caffeine, alcohol and drugs which increases the chances of miscarriage. Do not expose yourself to toxic materials such as paint or pesticides.
Make a list and preparation plans for labour, choose the hospital, consider the implications if any during your final trimester. Prepare for the logistical part of getting everything ready for your baby.
Attend mother – to – be seminars and exercise sessions if possible. This will give you lots of useful information and calm you down emotionally. Moreover, it would help you to connect with other like-minded mothers- to- be, help you to learn useful tips and ensure you that you are going the right direction.
Also, do keep positive and enjoy this time!
